Veteran 1 For All

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

The Simpsonville Massacre

On June 21 following the Freedom Festival in Nicholasville, Kentucky the Veterans Coalition made arrangement through the host Camp Nelson Foundation for the bus returning to Louisville to stop in Simpsonville. The purpose for the stop was to visit the roadside memorial for the twenty-two Black Union Soldiers who were massacred there by Confederate sympathizers in 1865.

The Coalition has pledge support for the archaeology being conducted to recover the bodies. We are hopeful that the recovery will result in a reburial with full military honors for the soldiers at Camp Nelson Cemetery. We thank the Buffalo Soldiers Motorcycle Association for maintaining the roadside memorial.

We thank the Kentucky Center for African American Heritage for recording the stop and making the video available through the following YouTube  Link:  https://vimeo.com/1099120201
